Recently I have enjoyed creating works that please me and are enjoyable to work on. Growing up in England and receiving training in the arts, I feel a lot of my earlier work was made to formula, looking to please others and create what was expected in the ‘art world’.
Since moving to the States my work has become freer and I have developed the confidence to experiment with different media and themes allowing my work to lead me, rather than my leading the work.
Currently, I am mainly exploring the medium of acrylics on canvas. My work seems to have evolved into three major areas of interest; abstracts, abstract nudes, and stylized botanicals.
I enjoy the use of bold colors hoping to convey sweeping movement in my canvases. My inspiration comes from many areas, including but not limited to the natural world, great music, the human form and all bright colours that are constantly available around us if we take the time to look.
I believe my work will continue to evolve as I allow myself the time to explore the many possibilities available.
